Peace and quiet

February 22, 2015

Shhh now. Let’s have a little peace and quiet. Mrs simonsometimessays is in the next room, decidedly under the weather, and when she’s like that she doesn’t like to hear a thing. Not a thing. She likes to Enjoy the Silence.

Excellent song, that one. Depeche Mode on great form. I don’t need to add anything except to confirm (in case you were worried) that I am enjoying it through headphones as I type, while Mrs sss can enjoy the actual silence undisturbed.

I’m not a big fan of silence, generally. Solitude yes, silence no. Perhaps it’s because silence might let me retreat into myself, where I rarely learn anything to my great advantage. I would much rather have music – almost any music – to take me out of myself. And on this occasion I stuck with Depeche Mode for a few minutes more, and Personal Jesus indeed took me somewhere else. Not sure where; and it didn’t make me think anything in particular. I just listened.

Somewhere to go when you don't know where you want to be

Somewhere to go when you don’t know where you want to be

Sometimes you need do no more than that. So I won’t hang around. I just wanted to share with you something that I believe that folk should listen to.

Tallis: the Sanctus and Benedictus  from the Mass for Four Voices. It doesn’t matter whether or not you are of a religious inclination; just acknowledge whatever Providence you choose and let this carry you off somewhere.

I’ll see you, I hope, when you get back. And then we can make some noise.
